The Students’ Union at the RVC acts to liaise with academic and administrative staff at college over all matters involving Students. It plays a vital role in ensuring that Student opinion is heard. It relies on all members of the college putting forward their views, complaints and suggestions for change.
The SUS has three main objectives:
The SUS is provided with an annual block grant from the College. It is used to help achieve these three main objectives, as well as to continue the sponsorship of College based sports clubs and societies, donations to events such as Annual Ball and Christmas Ball, maintaining membership to Association Veterinary Students, British Veterinary Association and International Veterinary Students Association etc…..
All Students studying at the RVC are automatically members of the SUS, whether BVetMed, BSc, Nursing Students or Postgraduates. Students can "opt out" of membership; however this withdraws their right to receive the benefit of having a voice within the SUS.
The SUS Council meets twice a term to discuss progress on current issues at the RVC, and ensure that the Union aims are being met. The council consists of the elected SUS Officers and elected representatives of all courses taught at the RVC, along with some non-elected members who are not eligible to vote on your behalf. The names of your representatives are listed under “SUS officers” on these pages. Students can raise issues with their reps or alternatively an SUS Officer, if they want them raised at SUS Council. Also, if you want to find out what goes on at these meetings any member is entitled to ask for a copy of the minutes, (contact sugenmanager@rvc.ac.uk). They should also be posted under “SUS council meetings” under "documentation" on these pages.
You can also use the forums under "discussion board" to raise an issue or ask a question.
Thirdly, you can go to one of the advertised SU drop in sessions with one of your representatives.
